Dragon Boat Festival, celebrated in May fifth of lunar calendar, has been a joyous folk festival for fitness, preventing disease, avoiding plaque and praying for health of multiple nationalities of China for more than two thousand years.
Dragon Boat Festival is also known as Duanyang Festival and Chongwu Festival. According to historical records, on May five of lunar calendar in 278 BC, Qu Yuan, the minister of Chu State and a patriotic poet, jumped into the Miluo River with a rock on his foot in a suicide manner after completing the last work “Huai Sha” in overwhelming grief and indignation triggered by the news of the occupation of the capital by the Qin army. People living nearby the river strived to salvage him by boats and dropped Zongzi into the river to prevent fish and shrimp from eating his body.
Let’s make Zongzi together
How old can a baby eat Zongzi
Zongzi, which is made of glutinous rice, is hard to be digested by the digestive enzymes in the stomach of a baby, explaining why people always suffer from indigestion after having Zongzi. Out of this reason, it is recommended to be avoided for babies younger than 1 year old. Babies over one year old can try a few bites if they have salt added in the usual diets.
What should be concerned to have kids eat Zongzi
Zongzi should be eaten between two meals and avoided in breakfast and supper late at night, as glutinous rice of Zongzi may stay in the stomach, which wiggles slow in the morning, with some damages caused in the case of eating on an empty stomach.
Furthermore, proper amount of Zongzi should be eaten without having excessively, as it may cause abdominal distension and diarrhea for harming the spleen and stomach, especially for kids, who may suffer from indigestion easily.
Happy Dragon Boat Festival！
